Eco-Friendly Alternatives for Things You Use Every Day

Saving the planet might sound like something taken straight from a superhero checklist. But actually, you can help by doing a simple act in your daily life, like switching your everyday tools to eco-friendly products. You know, developing a concern towards the environment is a superhero thing to do too. With few substitutions, we can take one step closer to realizing our goal of zero waste to landfill, and ultimately protecting the earth for the future.

Here are some eco-friendly alternatives that you can use today for things you use every day:

🟢 Reusable grocery bags

Each year, we use an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags. Using reusable grocery bags is a simple way to cut down on the habit without missing out on convenience if you make sure to only buy enough to meet your needs, and remember to bring them every time.

🟢 Reusable water bottle

Even though recycling programs exist, 91% of the water bottles we use every year wind up in a landfill. And we use about a million per minute. Grab a cool water bottle  you'll enjoy using and skip the plastic disposable bottles.

🟢 Compostable cutlery and bowls

Plates and cutlery made from biodegradable materials are more environmentally friendly because these do not leave behind toxic chemicals or residues. In addition, these products degrade over time, releasing earth-friendly nutrients back into the soil.

🟢 Reusable Drinking Straws

According to the National Park Service, you could fill over 125 school buses with the straws Americans use every single day (500 million in all). Using disposable utensils of any kind introduces a lot of unnecessary waste into the environment.

🟢 Reusable Food Storage

Because these containers are recyclable, BPA-free non-toxic, and they reduce waste, you can position your to-go food program as both an environmentally friendly and a clean/healthy way for diners to eat on the go.

🟢 LED light bulbs

LEDs are up to 80% more efficient than traditional lighting options — 95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light and only 5% is wasted as heat. They also use much less power, which lowers the demand on power plants and decreases the accompanying greenhouse gas emissions.

🟢 Clothes

Repurposing brings a new life to something that's used and doesn't contribute to the 11 million tons of textiles waste. Think of all the ways you can alter it to make it the item of your dreams.

🟢 Reusable, organic cotton dish towels

If it doesn't have to be single-use, it probably shouldn't be. Using 100% organic cotton dish towels is a great substitute to paper towels, since you can throw them in for a wash in the washing machine repeatedly.

🟢 Rechargeable batteries

Batteries are made up of a variety of chemicals, some of which are toxic and can cause soil and water pollution. To prolong the usage of your batteries and keep them out of landfills, you may want to look into rechargeable ones.
